About the Event
Horribly misunderstood and horribly mistreated…to the point that they won’t leave their house without a mask on.
Yes.
I’m talking about raccoons!
Initially when I was contacted about taking in a baby raccoon I said no and gave the information over for a wildlife rehabber. Later that night I pulled up Facebook and began my nightly scrolling. TWO POSTS where people had shot raccoons in their yard. ONE of the post stated that it was shot during the day so it MUST have rabies, it was clearly a nursing mother that was hungry based off the appearance of swollen teats in the picture and the fact that it was eating food out of a trash can when it was shot.
This broke my heart to know that baby raccoons would now be sitting in a nest starving to death. After some research I called back the person raising the raccoon and agreed to take her.
That began the story of Pippin the raccoon and is how she became our newest animal ambassador. She will spend her life educating guests and followers about these special animals and all of the problems they face as we encroach on their habitats.
Although she is displayed for you to watch her at the sanctuary from a safe distance she is only allowed to be handled by myself so she unfortunately will never be allowed to interact with the public BUT she puts on an AMAZING show when she knows you’re looking!
Saturday September 30th Jonas and Alyssa will be locking me in the cage with her and her BFF “Piper” the coatimundi for FOUR HOURS as part of a fundraiser for the sanctuary as well as to be present to answer any questions you may have about raccoons, coatis, or just to entertain me while I wait out my imprisonment! Be sure to bring cash for “bail” (donation) money! If we hit $250 I’m allowed to come out early!
Join us this Saturday, hang with baby goats, enjoy the atmosphere, take a walk in the woods, support a good cause, enjoy the outdoors, KISS A CAMEL!
***Please know (this part is mainly for anyone “stalking” the page looking to report us for something) WE ARE USDA LICENSED, and I’m fully vaccinated for rabies and I am the ONLY PERSON allowed to interact with her and she has a fence around her enclosure to prevent guests from being able to interact with her (that should hopefully cover the haters)***
