This camp will open up a world that feeds your child's simple love of everything that has to do to with animals and the outdoors. This camp will create access for your child to see what life on a farm involves.
Thursday night campers will stay overnight in woodland primitive shelters we will construct throughout the week or else may bring a tent to camp in. Dinner will be served this night aside a camp fire and the next day we will make our own omelets using farm fresh ingredients. Drop off Thursday will not be until noon.
Learning to milk goats, make cheese and ice cream, making new friends, haltering and walking a pony, taking breaks and hanging out with baby goats, caring for the exotic animals the farm is home to, visiting other farming operations, and a ton more!
During lunch (1 hour) kids will be allowed to swim in the pool and have access to a private outdoor changing area or may watch a movie depending on weather.
No two camps are the same, and while we might be hunting for local wildlife one day, the next day we may be learning about nuisance alligators, or having a visit from our vet and assisting with surgery on a goat. We practice "Free Range Supervision" during the camps and schedules change daily based on farm events, emergencies, and campers interests. The schedule and camp are VERY relaxed and we guarantee an enjoyable experience for your camper!
Here are some of the subjects that will be covered over the course of the 5 days:
- Caring for a Dairy Goat Herd - Learning about the various exotic animals living on the farm from macaws to a kinkajou to a 80 pound African tortoise. - Exploring the woods and learning about the local flora and fauna. What can hurt us outside and what can help us? - Learning snake species to be careful of in the local area. - Constructing primitive shelters and setting up a camp.
The camp will be directed by the Goat Daddy Jason Southers and Abbie Kowalke of Crazy Chic Heritage Farm. Both have a deep love for farming and became friends years ago when Abbie interned at Goat Daddy's Farm. We are both veterans and have a "can do" attitude when it comes to hard work, education, and most importantly, FUN!
Jonas Verwers will be a Junior Counselor and is currently the farm manager at Goat Daddy's Farm. He is one of the funnest and hardest working "farm hands" in the world.
Mya is Abbie's daughter and is also a junior counselor and is an expert farmer and hard worker even at her young age!
Covid-19 Precautions: We ask that all campers and campers families remain as isolated as possible prior to and during the camp and minimize their exposure to others during this time. If campers are not feeling well at any time during the camp please DO NOT come to camp. All activities will be done using social distancing as best as possible during the camp. Masks will be available but not required during camp. The camp is limited to 7 campers only to minimize exposure.
It is up to you as a parent or guardian to decide if your child is fit to participate in a farm camp. Campers will have continuous supervision but should have some idea and general safety in the outdoors.
